Monica is a movement specialist artist extraordinaire who uses the universal movement languages of Clown, flow arts, dance and music to authentically engage with her audience.
Monica has studied with Clown experts Francine Cote, Ian Wallace, Gina Bastone, Elaine & Gordon Brewer-White, David Mac-Murray Smith, Eric Davis (Bouffon), Nathaniel Justiniano (Bouffon), Sonia Noris and Deanna Fleysher. She has performed and toured as a member of the performance collective Spiral Kiss learning the flow art form of Central Indian Club spinning as taught by UK circus troupe performer and friend Petra Knight of Sparklight Moon. She Is formally trained in contemporary dance by dance figures, Margie Gillis, Peggy Baker, and Reisa Stienberg, Toronto Dance Theatre’s Kenny Pearl and David Earle during operator Gisa Cole’s reign at Maindance’s professional training program in Vancouver BC. She has studied contact improvisational dance with Peter Bingham and EDAM and Butoh with Hiroko Tamano of Harupin-Ha Butoh Dance Company of San Francisco and has studied yoga & Chi Kung techniques as well as learned the Martial Art of Capoeria with Marcos Barrao, of Axe Brazil. She has studied Historical dance with the artistic director Catherine Lee (SFU) of The Historical Performance Ensemble, and has studied and worked with Vancouver Moving Theatre’s Pepe Danza and trained with African djembe instructor Quasi and has explored training in various aerial dance forms with specialist Ruby Rowat, Manoin Beudoin of Tooba Physical Theatre, Kira Schaffer of Firebelly and Aeriosa Dance. Monica holds dance certification in RAD Ballet and in the A.D.A.P.T. Tap Dance syllabus and is a prolific tap dancer. Her fancy footwork has taken her jigging, touring with Compani V'ni Dansi under the direction of Yvonne Chartrand, performing and sharing traditional Metis and First Nations dance with remote communities throughout Canada.
Monica has performs musically as a vocalist, as a percussionist and is an avid ukulelist. Her roving circus characters and fire performances have been featured all around the city and in major public events and festivals.
